Why 80?

Well, I said that I would share with you why I picked 80 for this artistic adventure.
The whole idea comes from my friend, Shaun Ellsworth, in the first place. He did the very same thing, only he created 100 paintings in 100 days. Shaun and I have never met but when I came across his blog one day and saw what he had done, I knew right then that we were kindred spirits. I actually asked his permission to “copycat” him because I didn’t want to steal any thunder. He was/is so gracious and so supportive with his blessing to go for it! (Thanks Shaun!) So to change it up a bit from 100, I was really working to find a good number–challenging but do-able with some meaning or significance. I considered 76….for the Spirit of 76. (This is as much a spiritual adventure as anything.) I thought about 86 for the year of my birth. I finally settled on 80 to reflect the movie/book Around the World in 80 Days. That was it except it would be Around MY World in 80 Days.
I immediately thought of adventurous journey. Freedom. Then, like a light bulb, the date, October 15 came to my mind. This whole thing will culminate, come together on October 15.
OCTOBER 15
That is the day I mark as a milestone in my life. 7 years ago on that day I was encouraged in my faith in Jesus to go deeper and farther, to really take His place in my life seriously and to begin to live for Him. It was the day that I learned that I could really talk to Him with the expectation that He would reciprocate. Much has happened since October 15, 2003 but this I know…life has meaning and it’s worth living. From beginning to end, there’s so much more than the eyes can see. I believe that. Otherwise, I don’t really see any point in waking up every morning.
My work here is an expression of that faith. It’s a faith that is often weak and meager, not much to give; sometimes expressive and bold.
